Thanks to ubee for supplying recordings of the tape and scans of the manuals.
DIGITALKER allows the MicroBee user to store a voice in the computer as digital data which may be retrieved at some later time. Simply load the DIGITALKER software, plug the DIGITALKER hardware into the I/O PORT and connect the DIGITALKER lead to the EAR plug of your tape recorder. The digitized voice may easily be incorporated into the users own programs without detailed knowledge of machine code.
The tape was originally recorded at 48khz and saved as a mono 16bit WAV file. Side A of the tape contained 2 x 1200baud recordings and side B one 300baud recording. The 1200b recording needed some noise filtering to allow it to load error free into ubee512 emulator while the the 300b recording loaded directly in error free with no filtering. Both were recorded on a new cheap USB Cassette tape unit. The files were then processed down to 22khz and saved as mono 8bit WAV files to reduce their size considerably but retain their wave form and load-ability. The software was saved out as a BEE file also. The Tape loads at 1000h, so the BEE file had a line of code added to move it into position. So in BASIC, run with
RUNM "DIGITALK.BEE" <cr>
The small D-Shell DIGITALKER hardware (which plugs into the Microbee's Parallel Port) was opened and ubee was able to draw up the schematics for it, which are included here. ubee512 emulator does not emulate this hardware at the moment (its on ubee's list to include in a future ubee512 release) but you can load in the software and see what it offers.
There is the Mytek Monitor built in as well, by selecting option 5. We have the manual for this already, so check that out for full use of the monitor.
Also, ubee supplied scans of 2 other Mytek manuals for Asteroids Plus and Machine Language Tutorial. These are included here to replace our existing manuals as these are better quality. Photo's of the tapes and the hardware are to follow.
So today in the Repository in the following folders we placed
digitalker_300b.wav <--- all 3 in zip file in Software\Tapes\Original\Mytek folder
mytek_digitalker.pdf <--- both in zip file in Documentation\User_manuals\Mytek folder
mytek_asteroids_plus.pdf <--- both replaced files in Documentation\User_manuals\Mytek folder
