uBee512 5.6.0 released

Postby uBee » Sat Feb 28, 2015 6:24 pm

uBee512 v5.6.0

An emulator for the Microbee Z80 ROM, FDD and HDD based microcomputers.

This is mainly an interim single bug fix release. The next major release will have many new features and more bug fixes.

New for this release:
* Added Raspberry Pi 'deb', 'rpm' and 'tgz' binary distribution builds.

Changes:
* Compiled up against the LibDsk-1.3.5 library which now provides write support for CopyQM disk images along with many other changes since 1.2.1 released in 2008-01-23. See the LibDsk ChangeLog.

Fixed:
* Fixed a problem when writing to CRTC 6545 display start high and low registers 12 and 13 was not refreshing the display. This had been a long standing issue with some programs that changed these registers such as the Net ROM under the IC model where rubbish characters remained on the top line.

Raspberry Pi builds

Emulation under RPi1 is usable but the sound performance is not very good and the CPU usage is very high. The emulation under the RPi2 is very good and has low CPU usage.

No additional packages should need to be installed, just install uBee512 then run it from the command line then follow the information on the display concerning ROMs and disks, etc. placed into the user's home account (pi) '.ubee512' directory.

To install from the command line as root (sudo):

sudo dpkg --install ubee512_5.6.0_armhf.deb

or install using a graphic installer program such as 'gdebi'

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gdebi

An updated 'games.ini.sample_crlf' script (in win32 CRLF format) has been placed into the same location of the latest uBee512-5.6.0 release. This script release now includes a full ChangeLog and has some new game entries and fixes.

MSPP member 'emujoust' has made quite a number of fixes and additions to the script going back to 2014/04/07 so many thanks to that member's efforts.

From the recent ChangeLog...

Code: Select all
# 2015/06/24
# ----------
# - Kingtut would not work under the script because it depended on the IY
#   register containing a specific value.  MSPP member 'wizged' found and
#   fixed the game.  The kingtut.bee section also has a new load address.
# - Added a 'targetc.bee' section which is a colourised version of 'target'
#   by MSPP member 'wizged'.
#
# 2014/04/07
# ----------
# Thanks to MSPP member 'emujoust' for the following additions and corrections:
# - Added new game entries: astplus.bee, breakout.bee, chomp.bee,
#   defense.bee, donut.bee, galaxyip.bee, galinvp.bee, groobl-j.mwb,
#   hoards11.com, hopper.bee, meteor1.bee, meteor2.bee, outhouse.bee,
#   pendat.bee, robotf.bee, seadrag.bee and ti.bee.
# - Fixed Eureka! was missing 1/2 pair of inverted commas making games fail
#   to load.
# - Fixed naming of "Microbee: Lazer" to the correct name "Microbee: Laser
#   Blazer"
# - Alternative "Penetrator" load address --file-load=2304 (different
#   binary), the older binary required 256 (needs different name).
# - Fixed Breakout @JS_RELEASE@ to @JS_FIRE@ as down on joystick also
#   activates 'release' meaning a key conflict making it impossible to move
#   down in Breakout.
# - Changed "Munch" to "Munch (Ghost Muncher)" to be inline with
#   Australasian Heritage Software Database and for clarity.
